I read the following passage in John in my devotions this week and God confirmed something I had been hearing in my inner ear for several days, even though I have not been tempted in this area recently...YET. Yes, God will speak to our hearts to prepare us sometimes, not just to rebuke us for sin alone. The thought that had replayed in my mind was this:
"Be careful that you do not preach/not preach anything based upon the fear of people and their opinions...but fear and love Me above all" -God
I think that most people would be tempted in this area, whether they are a pastor, or a leader. Even if we are simply living day to day life, we will likely be tempted at some point to sell God out for the praise of men. I believe this is why Jesus told us not to be ashamed of Him before people in Mark 8:38. The following passage is good for each of us to take to heart:
John 12:42–43 (NKJV)
42 Nevertheless even among the rulers many believed in Him, but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, lest they should be put out of the synagogue; 43 for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.
